We are extending the deadline for the Youth Jack-0-Lantern Contest.

There is still time for all you parents to help your kids carve their first Halloween pumpkin this year, and enter it in our contest!

Please post your kids' jack-o-lantern photos by no later than 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 31 (Halloween). We will make our decision by noon Friday and post it on this website forum. The winner can pick up her/his prize at my house - 917 Rose Circle SW- on Halloween Eve! (or I can deliver it later, if necessary).

We cannot extend the deadline for the adult competition because the prize (a ticket to a musical concert tomorrow night) must be distributed tonight or tomorrow.

We have a winner in our adult Jack-O-Lantern contest!

It was a tough choice.

We had two fantastic, creative entries, both of which showed unique style and panache! Both were scary, as every jack-o-lantern should be.

Even the names of our two jack-o-lantern entries were frightening and appropriate - CyberBorg and Day of the Dead!

We voted by secret ballot, and after the votes were counted, CyberBorg won. This should not be interpreted as a bow to the threats made by CyberBorg; we were not intimidated!! We simply felt that the creators of CyberBorg showed extreme originality and "outside the box" thinking in his/her design features and execution.

Our Day of the Dead pumpkin was obviously a close runner up, and not only because of the limited entries. What a fantastic piece of artwork! We have decided that next year, our Second Annual Halloween Jack-O-Lantern contest will be expanded to include a professional category, because we are convinced that the carver of this pumpkin must be a professional artist or sculptor - and we hope that other artists in the neighborhood will take up the challenge. We would love to see more work with this level of expertise. Sleyja, if you have a website for your artwork, will you share that with everyone? We'd love to see more of it.

As announced earlier today, our children's/youth contest deadline has been changed to 9:00 a.m. Friday, October 31. Please post a photo of your child's jack-o-lantern by then!

Liz and Carl, I'll be bringing your prize to you and look forward to seeing you tomorrow night! I hope everyone else also listened to Elliot's music on his website and will think about joining us tomorrow at Smith's Olde Bar, 1578 Piedmont Avenue, at 8:00 p.m. The Elliot Holden Band opens for Porter Batiste Stolz, and it will be a fun evening with great music!

2. Take a photo of it. If you don't have a camera, we will take the picture for you.
