MINUTESWEST END NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT, INC.GENERAL MEETINGJune, 2008 The W.E.N.D., Inc. General Meeting was held Tuesday, June 3rd, in the Community Room of the West End Public Library. Carl Nes, President, called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. ROLL CALL Attendees signed the attendance roster. Those present at the start of the meeting introduced themselves to the collective body. Board Members present Carl Nes - President John Pavlin – 1st Vice-President Steve Bartow – 2nd Vice-President Joetta Thomas- Treasurer Vonda Henry – Secretary Approval of minutes with changes – tour of homes update Items voted onBumper sticker design was presented for review. Motion: To approve #1 design and for WEND to approve the expenditure of to purchase the bumper sticker. Motion approved 14 votes for approval Committee ReportsTour of homes, Vonda Henry No report. Firehouse Committee, Michael Joseph, Chair Caesar Mitchell toured the firehouse. Capital City will with help raise donations for the repairs and J.W. Robinson will do the architect work pro bono. Saturday and Sunday there will be an open house for firehouse #7. The firehouse is the busiest in the city and the oldest. The city architect believes that designating it a historic place will not help the firehouse it may hinder it. Closing the firehouse may affect our insurance rate. Beautification, Vonda Henry, Chair Nothing new Public Safety, John Pavlin, Chair Officer Bender came to meeting to report on crime. The drug activity in West End is concentrated on Lowery and Beecher. The best way to fight crime is to get to know your neighbors. Preservation and Urban Design, Handy Johnson, ChairGuidelines are still available for $20.00 Education, Joanne Rhone, Chair June 19th there will be a meeting on the different types of schools supported by APS. The meeting will be from 6pm-8pm at the West End Library. Zoning and Land Use, Chair Open Mortgage Fraud, Chair OpenMembership, Chair Open NPU-T NewsDanielle Carney went to a tree Atlanta meeting and has “Slow Down” signs that you can place in your yard. Also if you need free mulch please contact Danielle. Beltline sub-group will be held on 6/28th. Atlanta connect meeting will be held 6/30th from 6pm-8pm. Two new community groups have started-College town Community and Beecher Donnelly. NPU –T lost planner Edmond McFell will take the place of city planner temporarily. MiscellaneousJohn Pavlin came up with idea to have a community yard sale. Volunteer are needed and a sign up list was circulated. Wren’s Nest has t-shirt on sale for $15.00.
